First class meeting: May 2 at 6pm at Nicholas County High School.
Firefighter II is the final step for interior structural firefighters, based on NFPA 1001 (Firefighter Level II) performance objectives. The course covers incident command, building collapse, vehicle extrication, technical rescue, hose testing, foam operations, flammable materials, fire detection and alarms, fire cause analysis, communications, reporting, pre-fire planning, and tactical strategy.
Must be Firefighter 1 certified.
Must bring full PPE, SCBA, and spare bottle.

This course is designed for emergency response personnel who would function in a Command or General Staff position during a large, complex incident or event, or personnel who are or would likely be part of a local or regional Incident Management Team during a major incident, whether single agency, multiagency or Unified Command.
Must have ICS-100 and ICS-200.
Must have laptop computer.
No junior firefighters.
This course trains firefighters to form and operate an effective RIT. Blending classroom theory with hands-on exercises, it covers essential rescue operations including team organization, deployment, communication, and safe fireground tactics. Emphasis is placed on rapid, coordinated responses to assist firefighters in distress while ensuring overall incident safety.
Must have Firefighter 1.
Must have full PPE, SCBA, and spare bottle.
This course meets NFPA 1006 standards by combining awareness-level theory with basic rope rescue operations. Classroom sessions cover safety protocols, incident size-up, hazard recognition, and first responder considerations. Participants receive practical training in multi-point anchors, rappelling, ascending systems, and patient/resource management per NFPA 1006 Chapter 6.
Must have helmet, gloves, boots, and rescue harness.
WV PST may invoice separately for this course instruction.
This course teaches vehicle rescue techniques including vehicle/machine classification, extrication, stabilization, patient disentanglement and care, Incident Command System operations, and incident termination. The course emphasizes hands-on skills.
Must have full PPE and eye protection.
First class meeting: May 3 at 8am at Nicholas County High School.
This course is a combination classroom and practical skills training focused on emergency vehicle operations. Topics include safety, legal aspects, inspection, and driver responsibilities. Both written and practical examinations are administered. This class meets WV State Fire Commission driver training requirements and recommendations.
It is recommended that you bring apparatus from your own department to drive.
First class meeting: May 9 at 6pm at Nicholas County High School.
This course is designed to educate students on performing emergency rope rescue at the technician level with NFPA 1006 and 1670 standards. Students will learn tech level skills including rope use and knots, anchors, rope systems, and performing rescue operations using low angle, steep angle, high angle, and highline operations.
Must have Rope Rescue Operations.
Must have helmet, gloves, boots, and rescue harness.
No junior firefighters.
WV PST may invoice separately for this course instruction.
First class meetings: May 10 at 8am at Nicholas County High School.
This course will teach students the roles and responsibilities of the pump operator. Tasks to be covered are pump operation and maintenance, engine placement at fires and rescue scenes, drafting from static sources, placement of hose streams and deluge sets, and use of deck guns and heavy streams. This is a combination classroom and hands-on course.
This course is designed for emergency response personnel who would function as part of an Area Command, Emergency Operations Center, or Multiagency Coordination System during a large, complex incident or event, or those personnel who are or would likely be part of a local or regional Incident Management Team during a major incident, whether single agency, multiagency or Unified Command.
Must have ICS-300.
Must have laptop computer.
No junior firefighters.
This course trains firefighters in structural search and rescue operations. Through classroom instruction and practical exercises, participants learn hazard assessment, systematic search methods, and safe victim extrication. The curriculum stresses building stability, effective communication, and teamwork for urban and industrial rescues. It prepares firefighters for rapid, safe operations under pressure.
Must have Firefighter 1.

All classes except for rope rescue will be instructed by WVU Fire Service Extension. Mike Gray with WV Public Service Training will be instructing Rope Rescue Awareness/Operations and Technician.
All classes will first meet at Nicholas County High School. Instructors will then notify students if there is a different local location for remaining portions of the class.
